This comfortable house with 400 feet of wooded lakefront was built as a family home about 30 years ago. With solar panels, a brick Russian fireplace (used only when occupied full-time in the winter) and large picture windows facing the beautiful mountain and lake views to the south, it was built to be both energy efficient and to take full advantage of the location. The result is a beautiful home designed to be lived in and enjoyed on a lakefront parcel with one of the most beautiful views in the Adirondacks. Evening and morning skies from the dock, eagles soaring overhead and nesting across the bay, and loons calling in the distance are all a regular part of our summers.

The house was constructed in 1981, the second to be built here in what has grown to be a small community of homes on this private peninsula on Oseetah Lake.  The area is accessed by a private dirt road, and our house is at the end of the road, about 1.5 mile from where it leaves the paved road and crosses the tracks of the Adirondack Scenic Railway.  The private road can be icy in the cold months, so winter renters should have four wheel drive.

There are three full size canoes, one single person canoe and a kayak by the dock. Paddles are also stored on site, as are boat cushions. Some PFD’s, or life jackets, are be available for adults, but please bring your own for any children. As all children are so different in size it is impossible for us to keep on hand appropriate life jackets for children. Also, please keep in mind that when boating you are required to have one flotation devise on board for every passenger. This can be a life jacket or cushion, but the State doe patrol the lakes in the Adirondacks and boaters have been cited for not having flotation devices. This is equally applicable to kayaks, canoes, sailboats and powerboats.

Upstairs

The design of the house places the Living Room, Dining Room and Kitchen on the top level where the views of the lake and mountains can be best enjoyed.   These rooms are connected on an open floor plan, with the upper level Master Bedroom and a Full Bath connected on the same level by a short hall.

Immediately off the Dining Room is a large screened-in Summer Porch, perfect for breakfasts, dinners or simply reading in the open air.  Behind this, on the road side of the house, is another covered deck where you can grill on the gas grill in any weather.  There is plenty of room on this shady deck for a large group to gather.

The main entrance to this level is on the road side of the house, via walkways from both the road and the main driveway.  There is a foyer here for winter or wet clothing, as well as a two large closets for coats and outdoor items in the entry area inside the house just beyond the foyer.   You may also enter this level through the previously mentioned rear deck, which adjoins a small rear parking place right behind the kitchen.  This make unloading groceries or other kitchen supplies easy without needing to haul everything up from the garage on the lower level.

Downstairs

Downstairs there are three more bedrooms and a Recreation Room which has a Pool Table, a TV and a convertible queen sized futon.  All four of these rooms open directly onto the small front lawn which is just above the lake.  The Two Car Garage adjoins the Recreation Room.  The short path to the lake is at the corner of the lawn and driveway, next to the separate  woodshed.   There is another bathroom with a shower downstairs, as well as laundry and a storage room/utility room.

Oseetah Lake is on the Saranac River, and part of the Saranac chain of lakes. You can travel by boat to Saranac Lake Village (Lake Flower) and nearby Kiwassa Lake. State operated locks on the river allow easy access upstream by motor boat or canoe to Lower and Upper Saranac Lakes. In all, there are over 25 miles of lakes to explore without leaving your boat, with all the bass fishing, windsurfing, kayaking and other lakefront activities you could want. Remote ponds such as Pine Pond are accessible by trail on the other side of the lake.

Click the below map to learn more about the connected lakes you can access for
fishing, sailing, waterskiing, photography and general exploring.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation LISTS the following fish species as being abundant it the lake:  largermouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, pumpkin seed, and brown bullhead.  Sunfish and other less desirable fish are also present.   Oseetah Lake is 826 acres with a lot of shallow areas that are great for fishing.

While there is not a motorboat with the rental, you can either rent one in Saranac Lake and drive it up the river to the house, or bring your own and launch it at the private boat ramp just down the road. Other local marinas on Lake Flower and Lower Saranac Lake also offer rentals that you can drive right to our dock. If you come with a boat there is room to park a boat trailer in the driveway of the house.

The location offers the best of many worlds. Only 8 miles from Main Street Lake Placid, it is far from the traffic, noise and light of that busy tourist town. You can be there for skiing, movies, shopping or dining within 15 minutes, but come back to relax in a more out-of-the-way and low key setting.

In the other direction, Saranac Lake is only 5 miles away. The summer offers evening concerts, live theater at Pendragon Theater, as well as convenient groceries, shopping, hiking, and of course its world famous winter carnival every year. Further on in that direction are more lakes and mountains to explore, as well as the Natural History Museum in Tupper Lake, and the VIC (Visitor Interpretive Center) in Paul Smiths.

And Ray Brook itself offers much of what you would want in addition to the boating, swimming and wintertime snowshoeing and cross country skiing available right on site. Hiking trails, golf, and BBQ are all an easy drive or bike ride away. Trails up Scarface , Little Haystack and McKenzie Mountains all start here. In season, you can find blueberries on all these trails. The Saranac Lake Golf Course is here as well, offering a nice alternative to the crowds in Lake Placid. And in the summer, the Tail O’ the Pup offers barbeque and live music just 3 miles from the house.
